The best way to get what you want is to know what you want. Selling a home is no different: Once we know what your goals are for the sale, we're on the way to meeting those goals.
It's easy to say "I want to sell my home in two weeks for twice what I paid for it," but that's not very useful when it comes to setting our strategy. Instead, the best first step is to look at why you're selling your home and what's important to you about the sale.
For most people, the key goals in selling a home have to do with money and time. Here are just a few sample scenarios that illustrate this:
- You have a growing family and are looking for a new home with the space you need. You can take your time to make sure you get the best price.
- You've been transferred to another city and need to move in three months. You want a good price for your home, but you need to sell quickly.
- You're retired and want to move to a smaller home, using the profits from your home sale for travel or other activities.
- You've saved a good-sized down payment and are ready for your first home.
